More About Us
Founded in 1989, the Hanover Concert Band is celebrating it’s 25th year… Our Silver Anniversary. We are a group of dedicated amateur musicians who meet regularly throughout the year to play and perform concert band music.
HCB is a community band and performs throughout Hanover county and the greater Richmond metro area as the “Musical Ambassadors of Hanover County”. We are under the direction of Karla Bloom of Montpelier Virginia. Venues have included Hanover Tomato Festival, Virginia War Memorial, Virginia Center Commons Mall, Commemorative Celebrations at Wayside Veterans Memorial Park, as well as Town of Ashland celebrations including the Strawberry Faire, the Ashland 4th of July Family event,Train Day in early November, Hanover Arts and Activities Center fund raisers and more.
The Band is a 501(C)3 Organization
Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. We fund our activities with donations and gifts from boosters, patrons, band members, sponsors and benefactors. Donations should be directed to: Treasurer, Hanover Concert Band at PO Box 652, Ashland VA 23005.
Hanover Concert Band invites you to kindle or rekindle your musical past. Join us in providing the gift of live musical entertainment to our community. We rehearse most Tuesday evenings 7:30PM to 9:30PM at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center, located at 500 S Center Street, in the heart of Ashland. We perform 12-15 concerts throughout the year. Musicians of all ages are welcome to join the band. Auditions are not required, but musicians must be able to read music at minimum difficulty level of grade III or better.

In 2007, The band received the Hanover County Commitment to Community Award. This honor was first awarded in 1999 and then again to HCB in 2007. The Award is now awarded annually as an encouragement to those who improve our county’s quality of life thorugh volunteerism. May 6th, 2014 we were honored by Hanover County for the band’s 25 years of volunteer service to the community and again on May 13th 2015 HCB received a citation from the Board of Supervisors presented by the Honorable Canova Perterson on behalf of the Board honoring the band’s 25 years of service.
